In the Neolithic Age Around 5000 years ago, when Emperors Yan, Huang, Yao and Shun, who are the ancestors of Chinese nation, ruled the country, people began to live in Changxing, the area on the foot of beautiful mountains , near the large Taihu Lake and with the Ruoxi Stream running through. The ancestors get settled in this fertile area and began to develop Changxing.

The ancestors in Changxing came from Yellow River Area, they are the offsprings of Chinese nation. Changxing’s population started to increase steadily since Song Dynasty. During the period of 1208 -1224 A.D., the population reached 273000 from 62300 families, averagely 5 people per family. However, the population decreased dramatically because of wars and natural disasters. After the implementation of policies encouraging population, people from other areas began to come here and get settled. Most of them are from Henang Province, Hubei Province, An’hui Province, the North of Zhejiang Province, and also from the places in Zhejiang Provinces such as Wenzhou, Taizhou, Shaoxing, Hangzhou,,Jinhua, etc. These immigrants, together with the local people, are making contributions to developing the area in the field of plant industry, fishing industry, education, etc. Everything we see in Changxing is the result of Changxing people’s efforts.

Changxing people’s contributions are not only for Changxing area, but for their beloved country. Changxing people are proud of their achievements such as Xie’an Tomb, the tomb of a powerful official in Eastern Jin Dynasty, the former residence of Chen Baxian(the first emperor of Chen Empire of the Southern and Northern Dynasties), the Tea Yard for Royal Members of Tang Dynasty, Xianshan Buddhism shrine, Taihu Lake Port of Ming Dynasty, the ruins of Suzhe Military Area of The New Fourth Army, the famous ZiSha Hu( Purple Clay Tea Pot) and Baiyelong Dancing, Chen Baxian the first emperor of Chen Empire, Princess Xu(the famous gifted scholar), Gu Yingxiang(the famous writer), Gui Youguang and Wu Cheng’en（the famous novelists of Ming Dynasty）, Ting Fengyuan(The Pioneer educationist of late Qing Dynasty), and a large number of revolutionists in modern times.
